Unit 2: Positions through triangulating 1 – Week 3

As a response to my work at ∆ 1 STUDIO, this week has seen me delve deeper into the intricacies of asthma‘s pathological manifestations through meticulous observation, thorough documentation, and comprehensive comparative analysis. The practice of ’thinking through making‘ has proven to be immensely beneficial, and the outcome presented will continue to be iterative.

Asthma Sound Visualisation 1
An oximeter is used to monitor physical conditions, such as blood oxygen levels and heart rate. For this purpose, I use it to conduct scientific recordings and compare them with a person who does not have asthma.
Based on my exploration, I created a publication on asthma
I collected these spectrograms into a small book which audience can have a clear and intuitive viewing experience
The audio recordings are carefully collected by me from online resources and are provided by processional medial experts

Feedback & References

Based on feedback and suggestions from my tutor and peers, I have also gained insight into the current issues in my work:

  1. Who is the audience? Who are the recipients of my work?
  2. Is the work too straightforward? Are there deeper layers of information and emotions that can be presented?
  3. Regarding asthma, what are the things the audience might not know?
  4. How can climate change be introduced as a key factor in my work to reflect its impact on asthma? This may require an information-based approach rather than just visual representation.
  5. In addition to the well-known breathing issues associated with asthma, can we delve deeper into the project‘s intent, personal emotions, and the broader context of asthma?
  6. I believe my next focus should be on how to go beyond the traditional presentation of asthma information and how to integrate it with visual communication language in consideration of the above questions.
