Unit 3: Projection 1 –  Week 3&4

Natural materials

This week I got into the habit of collecting natural materials and embarked on a journey to Iceland. During my journey, I unexpectedly encountered shimmering ice blocks on the beach, magnificent glaciers, and fleeting auroras resembling miracles. The coexistence of these natural landscapes’ presence and disappearance left me with a profound sense of beauty and regret.

Line of enquiry

Week 1: How to utilize illustration as a storytelling device to subvert and translate the idea of compassion for nature?

Week 2:  How can the narrative of nature painting be used to interpret the interconnections between nature and humans in a way that evokes empathy for nature?

Week 3 & 4: How can natural materials be used to interpret the fragility and fading of life in a way that inspires empathy for nature?

Work process

Through the changes in these natural materials, we can see the fragility and impermanence of life, as well as the endless beauty and sorrow contained within nature. This profound experience prompted me to reflect on the relationship between humans and nature, and our impact on ecosystems.
